Remember September 11th

Alexandria, VA—The chairman of The Center for the Advancement of Capitalism issued a statement condemning today's attack on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and urging the Bush administration not to rest until those who orchestrated the attack are brought to justice.

"I've known preparations for war as a former Marine, but I have never known war—I've never felt it on the perceptual level—until today," says Provenzo. "I live and work less than 10 minutes from the Pentagon—the crush of it exploding shook my apartment. There are reports that the casualties here in Virginia may be in the hundreds. Our Capital is shut down to business and governance. And that doesn't even begin to take into account the massive destruction wrought in New York City."

"I won't say that I'm shocked by today's attack," says Provenzo. "I understand just how and why America is hated and how our government's inaction has given our enemies a potency they have no right to possess. But this is a knowledge that until now the rest of the country has evaded."

"It is time for America to wake up," says Provenzo. "Whoever made this attack possible, whoever provided the means for it to be launched, whoever provided comfort and shelter to the attackers must be made to feel the full weight of our nation's desire for justice. The agents of evil who organized the attack on our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania have yet to be brought to justice. The agents of evil who organized the attack on the USS Cole have yet to be brought to justice. We must not allow the agents of evil who launched today's attack to enjoy the same fate. Whether the enemies who launched this attack are foreign or domestic, let not a single drop of blood shed today go unpunished."

"The World Trade Center and the Pentagon are powerful symbols of who we are as a nation," says Provenzo. "One represents the benefits of our free commerce, the other, our willingness to defend that freedom. As the wreckage of these buildings smolder, let us resolve to do everything in our power to identify and communicate the exact nature of those who launched today's attack on our nation. Let us issue the call for moral justice that up until this day has gone all but unheard. It has been said that the intellectuals are the leaders of a culture. Let us, in the face of today's vicious attack, demonstrate that leadership."

The mission of The Center for the Advancement of Capitalism is to present to the public a moral defense of individualism and economic freedom. The Center undertakes projects and activities designed to communicate its message to the public, the press, and policy leaders, targeting issues central to a moral defense of laissez-faire capitalism.
